Approximately one out of every 100 newborns suffers from congenital heart defects, making it by far the most common form of birth defect in the United States. The community is coming together to celebrate the 4th Annual Pediatric Cardiology Jacobsen Syndrome Research fundraising event on Saturday, May 12, in Rancho Santa Fe, hosted by Jeff and Linda Church. This year’s honorary co-chairs are Chris Kuba and his mother, Becky. Chris is a 16-year-old patient of Paul Grossfeld, MD, and a congenital heart disease survivor. “Dr. Grossfeld’s research is critical for the improvement and prevention of congenital heart defects,” says Brooke Landau, Emmy Award-winning weathercaster with San Diego 6/CW Network and emcee of the event. The honorary committee includes Bud and Nan Black, David Brenner and Tatiana Kisseleva, Reena and Sam Horowitz, Diane Martin, Rebecca Alson-Milkman and Craig Thomas, Ashley and Clayton Richard, Renee and Duane Roth, Charity and Mike Stanfield, Gaby and Richard Sulpizio, Surinder and Masood Tayebi, Linda and Jeff Church, Jenny and Dick Brooks, and Randy Woods and Wendy Walker. Attendees will enjoy gourmet food and wine, entertainment, and a silent auction. Tickets start at $225 per person. (858/966-8113, mogata@rchsd.org)
