On Thursday, October 6, at 5:30pm, at the Hyatt Regency La Jolla at Aventine, Big Brothers Big Sisters of San Diego County and LPL Financial Services join forces to present Big Brothers Big Sisters’ 50th anniversary gourmet dinner. An estimated 600 of San Diego’s top business and community leaders will gather to honor this year’s Person of the Year, Linda Lang. Lang was a mentor herself in college, and serves on the board of The Jack in the Box Foundation, a nonprofit organization that focuses the company’s charitable donations to make a difference in communities where employees, franchisees, and guests of Jack in the Box restaurants work and live. The foundation has contributed more than $4 million in financial and in-kind support to Big Brothers Big Sisters, its primary charitable partner since 1998. The Jack in the Box Foundation recently pledged $1 million to support BBBS military mentoring programs — locally known as Operation Bigs, which was the first program of its kind in the nation to provide caring mentors to children who have a military parent deployed.

The night begins with a cocktail hour that includes hosted bar, seafood hors d’oeuvres, specialty drinks, and networking opportunities. Guests will enjoy a sensational program emceed by Lynn Swann, NFL Hall of Famer, sports broadcaster, and Big Brothers Big Sisters of America board member, and some of the finest cuisine in the city. Other festivities include a silent and live auction, a special program video, and an unforgettable after-party with cigars, brandy, and desserts.

Proceeds will support Big Brothers Big Sisters of San Diego County’s mission to provide children facing adversity with strong enduring, and professionally supported one-to-one relationships that change their lives for the better. A successful evening means funding for more children to be matched with a caring adult role model, giving children in our community the means they need to succeed. Big Brothers Big Sisters of San Diego County provided mentors to more than 1,600 children in 2010. (858/536-4900, www.sdbigs.org
