San Diego’s most talented chefs and pastry artists will turn themselves into sculptors and movie set architects to create works of art out of gingerbread for the 17th Annual Gingerbread City Design Competition. Supporters are invited to marvel at How the Grinch Stole Christmas, Willy Wonka’s Chocolate Factory, Spiderman, and the Tale of Despereaux, to name a few, at this nationally recognized competition benefiting the Epilepsy Foundation of San Diego County. Called A Night at the Movies, the masterpieces will be unveiled at a gala event on Wednesday, December 1, at The Grand Del Mar.
This year’s exciting competition includes works submitted by The Grand Del Mar, Wicked Goodies, Lulu’s Sweet Art, multiple year-winner Melody Morse, and Pala Casino Spa & Resort.
Sally B. Thornton, chairman, and honorary chairman Robert A. Ingram invite you to enjoy the music of caroling, complimentary Champagne and wine, desserts, auctions, gorgeous displays, and savory delicacies prepared by chefs from San Diego’s top restaurants including Addison and Amaya from The Grand Del Mar, Kitchen 1540 at L’Auberge, The Marine Room, Azul of La Jolla, Café Champagne at Thornton Winery, Savory Casual Fare, Pacifica Del Mar, and Roppongi Restauant and Sushi Bar.
All proceeds from ticket sales benefit the Epilepsy Foundation of San Diego County, which offers free services to more than 50,000 people with epilepsy. Last year’s event netted more than $200,000 for the foundation. (619/296-0161, www.epilepsysandiego.org)
