San Diego Symphony turns 100 on December 6. To mark the milestone, its Centennial Gala will take place on December 3. Shaking things up a bit, the concert portion of the evening will be held at downtown’s Balboa Theatre, featuring guest artist Yo-Yo Ma, appearing courtesy of Tanya and Charles Brandes, with Jahja Ling as conductor. Then, the gala will take place across the street in the Grand Ballroom of the US Grant Hotel, the very location where the San Diego Symphony performed its first concert 100 years ago. Joan and Irwin Jacobs are centennial honorary chairs, Joyce and Craig Grosvenor are gala chairs, and Joye Blount and Jessie Knight are honorary gala chairs.
