Center for Community Solutions, a nonprofit agency that offers a complete range of sexual assault and domestic violence prevention and intervention services, is hosting its sixth annual Chef Showdown 2010 — Taking a Stand against Domestic Violence, on Thursday, October 21, from 6-9pm, at the NTC Promenade, Point Loma at Legacy Plaza.
The fundraiser, which honors Domestic Violence Awareness Month, will feature a lively culinary competition involving chefs from leading local restaurants including Busalacchi’s, ChileCo., Cosmopolitan, Cucina Urbana, El Vitral Restaurant, Le Papagayo, Mistral, and Truluck’s.
Guests will sample delicious and unique food items from the county’s most popular restaurants while enjoying beverages, cocktails, and live entertainment. Live and silent auctions will feature a variety of specialty items, events, and vacation opportunities from area companies.
San Diego’s own version of Iron Chef will feature celebrity judges and lively commentary provided by local food expert, Bernard Guillas, executive chef of the Marine Room; as well as event emcees Sam Zien, (Sam the Cooking Guy) and food television host, Candice Kumai, known as the “Stiletto Chef.” Event chairs are Isabel Cruz, executive chef of Isabel’s Cantina, and Dee Dee Castro of Viejas. Event sponsors include title sponsor Viejas, along with ProFlowers, Cups, Cox Communications, Dacor, and Standards of Excellence.
Funds raised through Chef Showdown will go to support sexual assault and domestic violence prevention and intervention programs and services. Tickets are $125. (858/272-5777, www.ccssd.org)
