Encinitas Elks Lodge is holding its 47th annual charity fundraiser, titled Community Hootenanny, in partnership with the North County Parkinson’s Support Group on the weekend of July 9-11. Festivities include a welcoming by the mayor, a concert by the 42-piece Golden West Pops Orchestra, and more than 60 hours of free entertainment aimed at families. Through its charitable programs, the Encinitas Elks Lodge has sent more than 10,000 packages to Iraq; served lunch to more than 350 returning marines and sailors; provided Christmas baskets to the military and disadvantaged; and much more. Last year the 304-member lodge donated almost $200,000 in cash, goods, and services while assisting others in raising more than $100,000 for educational and community projects and serviced nearly 9,000 persons.
