More than 250 guests are expected to attend Postcards From The Pacific: Oceans Of Memories, a dinner dance on Saturday, June 26, from 6-10pm to benefit the nonprofit The George G. Glenner Alzheimer’s Family Centers. True to its name, this year’s signature event will be held on the oceanfront at the beautiful and architecturally unique Scripps Seaside Forum in La Jolla. San Diego County’s own Carol LeBeau will be mistress of ceremonies.

Today we stand on the brink of a national epidemic unlike anything we have experienced before. As the largest number of Americans reaches retirement age, Alzheimer’s and other similar progressive and fatal diseases threaten life as we know it. The 2009 Alzheimer’s Disease Facts and Figures reports that Alzheimer’s disease alone has affected more than 5.3 million people in the U.S. and now is the sixth leading cause of death in our country. More than 50 percent of our population has been touched by this and other similar diseases either directly or through family members, friends, or neighbors. Here in San Diego and Imperial Counties, well more than 90,000 people have been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease.

For more than 25 years, The Glenner Family Centers have helped these families through quality adult day programs, family support, case management, crisis intervention, family and community education, advocacy, information, and referrals. Glenner Family Centers offers services in three strategic locations in San Diego County: Hillcrest, Encinitas, and Chula Vista. (www.alzheimerhelp.org)
