National Foundation for Autism Research (NFAR), a San Diego-based nonprofit founded by Juan and Sharon Leon, parents of a 16-year-old son with autism, celebrates the sixth annual San Diego Race for Autism on Saturday, March 27, in Balboa Park. The race serves as a march to awareness for April’s Autism Awareness Month and raises money to provide a positive, immediate impact on San Diego children and families living with autism. At the race, NFAR will also offer an informative resource fair, children’s activities, music, refreshments, and raffles. Participants can register up until the day of the event. Since 2005, NFAR has awarded nearly $500,000 throughout the San Diego community for pilot and research grants and educational programs. (www.raceforautism.org, www.nfar.org) JANE SHIOMI
