The nonprofit Japan Society of San Diego and Tijuana (JSSDT) presents the 8th annual Beer & Sake Festival on Friday, June 25, from 6-9pm, at the San Diego Marriott Del Mar, bringing together more than 50 industry professionals to showcase hundreds of imported Japanese beers, local microbrews, and a variety of sakes along with dishes from fine local restaurants. The centerpiece will be a live sushi competition featuring five of the county’s best chefs, as voted on by community members, who will be revealed June 7. Experience Beer in Contrast and discover how traditional Japanese cuisine and sushi are enhanced by the distinct flavors of various beers. In Demystify Sake, leading sake sommeliers will educate guests on everything sake including the many flavors, styles, and qualities, and how to drink it right. Tickets are $60 per person ($40 for JSSDT members and military). Proceeds will support the JSSDT’s educational programs that build bridges between the people of Japan and the San Diego/Tijuana region, including language competitions, internships, and educational and sports exchanges.
