Chef de cuisine Jeffrey Kaplan of Luc’s Bistro in Poway will share his culinary talents during the third in a series of six Cooking With Love Classes to be held on Sunday, May 23, from 3-6 pm, to benefit the Ronald McDonald House of San Diego. The organization provides a “home away from home” for families while their child is being treated for serious, often life-threatening illnesses at San Diego hospitals. The class will be held in the state-of-the-art kitchen at the new Ronald McDonald House.
Kaplan hails from Southern California and has lived in San Diego for seven years. He is a graduate of the California Culinary Academy and has worked at Mister A’s, Arterra, and Fog City Diner in San Francisco. He brings his Southern-style flair to influence the chefs at Luc’s, using only the finest and freshest meats and produce of our region to create distinct and delicious cuisine.
For the class, Kaplan will prepare shrimp and grits and frosted red velvet cupcakes. To participate in the hands-on cooking session the cost is $75; it is $50 to observe. Participants, audience members, and Ronald McDonald families will then enjoy the menu together.
Refreshments will be provided and all attendees will receive programs in which to write down the techniques they learn. (858/598-2445, slara-toney@rmhcsd.org)
