As the season’s laundry list of holiday to-dos quickly builds, Caroline Dorson, owner of Birdcage on Cedros, an award-winning specialty home furnishings and lifestyle store, has found a way to celebrate while giving back. She will host a holiday soiree on Saturday, December 10, from 6-8pm, to raise funds for the Big Sister League of San Diego, a nonprofit that provides women and girls with supervised transitional housing, volunteer mentor relationships and support services.
The organization is near and dear to Dorson, whose own sister had special needs. A portion of the proceeds from the entire day’s sales will be donated to Big Sister League. Dorson hopes holding this event will bring Big Sister League of San Diego the positive attention it deserves.
“We can make a tremendous difference in so many lives by bringing the community together and supporting a life-changing cause,” says Dorson. “We all benefit from occasional reminders that there’s always someone else who could use a little extra help. There’s no better time than the holidays.”
There is no admission fee and guests are welcome to browse the festively decorated store. Refreshments and small bites will be served, and Dorson will raffle off three elegant, hand-stitched pillows, valued at $150, signed by Barbara Walters, Patti LaBelle, and Rosalynn Carter, respectively, with full proceeds from the raffle going directly to Sister League of San Diego. Raffle tickets cost $20 each.
Birdcage on Cedros’ holiday soiree for the Big Sister League of San Diego will follow “Feliz Navidad Cedros!,” the Cedros Design District’s Mexican-themed fiesta featuring strolling mariachis, taco carts, and more, which takes place from noon to 5pm.
