On Sunday, September 18, from 2-4pm, The San Diego Women’s History Museum presents A Century Of San Diego Fashions, a fashion show produced by the museum and sponsored by the North County Giving Circle of Women’s Empowerment International (WE), of which many members will model outfits. Among the fashion models will be Lorraine Boyce, Escondido’s first woman mayor, herself an “empowered woman” and supporter of many worthy causes. The event takes place at the home of WE co-founder, Winifred Cox, and will include wine, appetizers, desserts, and a silent auction. The suggested donation to attend is $25 or $30, payable at the door or online: http://conta.cc/qJmvHT
WE is a San Diego-based nonprofit organization that partners with nonprofit banks for the poor to provide small collateral-free loans and business services to women in poverty. The North County Giving Circle is a group of ten WE members that has been meeting for five years. Their purpose is to publicize WE’s mission and to raise funds for its goals.
The Giving Circle has hosted speakers, helped with WE annual meetings, held wine and cheese events, and raised money. Its focus this year is on the newest WE partnership, Women’s Trust in Ghana, and the organization hopes to raise $3,000 for the program.
Present at the fashion show will be several women who will have just returned from a visit to Women’s Trust; they will share their experiences with the audience. Guests will also be able to meet several clients of the WE Center for STAR Women (a business incubator for refugee women in City Heights), who will have some of their unique, handmade, and designed fashions and products on display and for sale.
