Naeem Khan returns to headline the Globe Guilders Fashion Show this month, and the sparkling occasion promises to be a major event. After all, many of the world’s most beautifully-attired women are dressed by this man. Khan was schooled in the art of embroidery in his native India, where his father and grandfather designed for the royal families. Among the powerful women who have worn Khan’s clothes, the most visible has probably been First Lady Michelle Obama. When she wore his strapless gold gown to the Obama administration’s first White House State Dinner in November 2009 in honor of India’s Prime Minister, she made news across the globe. The Guilders deserve cheers for coming up with great fashion presentations year after year. This year’s show at the Hilton San Diego Bayfront Hotel, on August 24, marks the 20th anniversary of the annual homage to style. Hundreds of trend-setting women will be in attendance, with more than a few adding new Khan pieces to their wardrobes. Marlene Sterling is chair, and Liz Helming co-chair. Rana Sampson, First Lady of San Diego, is honorary chair. For ticket information please contact Jill Holmes. To read editor-at-large Andrea Naversen’s interview with Khan, please click here.
