So You Think You Can Sing

Published

Here’s an opportunity for music lovers who secretly long to sing — Bach Collegium San Diego offers an Open Sing musical performance on November 20, at 3pm, at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Pacific Beach. The public is welcome to join; music is provided and the cost to attend is $10 general admission/$5 for students.

The Bach Collegium San Diego has been in existence since 2003. It focuses on music of the Renaissance and Baroque periods, and particularly the vocal works of J.S. Bach. The ensemble has performed many historically informed musical pieces in San Diego, some for the first time locally. It also regularly joins an international tour to Mexico City with performances at the Festival Internacional del Organo Barroco. The repertoire has included Handel’s Theodora and Messiah, Bach’s St. John Passion and B Minor Mass, and Monteverdi’s 1610 Vespers.

Next month, the Bach Collegium offers “Gaudete! Motets and Carols: Old and New” at two venues. The first, at St. James by-the-Sea Episcopal Church in La Jolla, is on December 16, at 7:30pm, with the second one the following evening, December 17, at St. Andrew’s of Pacific Beach, also at 7:30pm.
