San Diego’s most well-dressed dogs will sport their finest tuxedos and tiaras at the San Diego Humane Society and SPCA’s annual Fur Ball gala on Saturday, August 14. Animal lovers are invited to attend the black-tie-optional event, sponsored by PETCO and the PETCO Foundation, at the San Diego Humane Society and SPCA, Gaines Campus. One of the Humane Society’s most popular events, the annual Fur Ball raises funds to support its programs and services for both animals and people in the San Diego region, and to strengthen the human-animal bond in our community.
This year’s Old Hollywood-themed Fur Ball, called “Casabarka,” will honor the Ellen Browning Scripps Foundation for its outstanding investment in the San Diego Humane Society for the past 13 years, in addition to its inspirational philanthropy throughout San Diego County and beyond. Dave Mason of 105.7 FM The Walrus and Clear Channel’s Pamela Howe will emcee this year’s event, which is chaired by Beverly and George Coles of Coles Fine Flooring.
As in previous years, the 24th annual Fur Ball will feature an amazing assortment of items and lifestyle packages available for purchase in both a live and silent auctions, including a fabulous dinner for 30 at Pamplemousse Grille created by the Fur Ball’s featured chef, Jeffrey Strauss; a pet-friendly weekend retreat for four guests at a private mountain-top estate in Jamul; a wine party for ten at Indigo Grill with appetizers prepared by chef Deborah Scott; an opportunity for your pet to be the cover model for the San Diego Humane Society’s 2011 calendar; plus much more.
The evening will begin with a cocktail reception and will feature fun activities for all the four-legged guests in attendance. The reception will be followed by the live auction, a special live-action painting performance by Splash! Animals, and an elegant three-course dinner prepared by Jeffrey Strauss, owner and executive chef of Pamplemousse Grille. Guests can end the evening dancing the night away to live music.
All net proceeds for this event will benefit the animals and vital community programs and services of the San Diego Humane Society and SPCA. (619/243-3401, devast@sdhumane.org, www.sdhumane.org)
