Nativity Prep Academy, located on Market Street in San Diego, will host Breakfast for Champions, a community breakfast at the Del Mar Fairgrounds Mission Tower Ballroom, on Wednesday, March 3, from 7:30-8:30am, free of charge. The unique event is estimated to draw 700 attendees, and the public is encouraged to participate and discover what makes this academic model that breaks the cycle of crime, drugs, and poverty so successful. Nativity Prep Academy combats a 50 percent area high school dropout rate with a successful national academic model that sends 80 percent of its inner-city children to college. This proven model includes a ten-hour school day, summer school, small classes, family counseling, weekly support while in high school, and numerous field trips outside of the children’s barrio neighborhoods. The breakfast is underwritten by a donor who wants to help spread the word about this year-round college prep middle school that challenges its at-risk children from southeast San Diego with a rigorous academic schedule. It’s a great way to enjoy breakfast with friends and perhaps be moved to donate. Tables of ten or individual reservations are available and doors open at 7am. Due to the large capacity, reservations are required. To make a reservation, please contact Del Centanni. (619/544-9455, ext. 227, www.nativityprep.org)
