The 25th Annual San Diego Brain Injury Foundation Charity Golf Classic to benefit the San Diego Brain Injury Foundation will be held at Country Club of Rancho Bernardo on Monday, April 26. The $250 registration fee includes the golf tournament, lunch, dinner, gifts, contests, raffle, and silent auction, and helps support the San Diego Brain Injury Foundation.

Every year, since 2004, a scholarship from the Don Strom Scholarship Fund has been given to a brain injury survivor to play in the Annual San Diego Brain Injury Foundation Charity Golf Classic. This year, the 25th anniversary of the golf classic, the recipient is Carl Sell of Hillcrest. Sell suffered a brain injury a little over a year ago, when he fainted head first onto a piece of concrete while watching an intense surgical procedure on one of his daughters. Sell was completely unconscious and in a full coma for three months, and is still enduring intense medical care and significant recuperation.

Sell states, “The remarkable aspect is the degree and speed of recovery that my physician team of 16 doctors refers to with amazement. I credit my special and inspirational friends in families like the San Diego Brain Injury Foundation (SDBIF) for my ongoing recovery.” Sell was in business management for 33 years, president, CEO, and board chairman for 5 companies over his career, but is now retired due to his brain injury.

Sell is a longtime golfer, having played for over 30 in different locations around the world, has recently returned to the golf course, and looks forward to participating in the Brain Injury Foundation tournament, the first tournament he’s played since recovering from a coma.
