Table No. 10

Approachable fine dining is the MO for the eatery taking over digs once occupied by Carnation in 1919 and, more recently bar and burger spot, The Corner. Settle into the minimalist contemporary confines with the help of soothing craft elixirs like the regionally themed Downtown Abby, a Mezcal and egg white-based cocktail with flavors of cherry, grapefruit, and cinnamon; or East Village Sour, rye with local honey, Meyer lemon, and Spanish Amontillado sherry. For those who believe sharing is caring, the Flux Capacitor — a drink built for two with gin, rosewater, violet liqueur, and lavender — is the way to go. Small plates get as direct as vinegared fried chicken skin or as multifarious as a mini surf-and-turf of scallop and pork belly with sunchokes and coconut cream. Both convey whimsy and creativity further communicated by Carlsbad Aquafarm mussels in ham hock dashi broth, Kobe beef brisket with house-made pickles and BBQ sauce, and opah with cornbread puree and a sweet-tart molasses gastrique. This table’s definitely for the adventurous. (619.550.1262, www.tablenumber10.com)   Brandon Hernández
