Art Of Photography Show

Published

The sixth annual Art of Photography Show 2010 returns this fall to Lyceum Theatre Gallery in downtown’s Gaslamp Quarter. Judged by Natasha Egan, associate director and curator at the Museum of Contemporary Photography in Chicago, the world-class exhibit will run through November 7 and is expected to be viewed by more than 30,000 people. In addition, the show will donate 100 percent of its portion of art sales revenue during the 2010 exhibition to The AjA Project, which empowers recently resettled refugee and immigrant youth through the use of innovative photography-based educational programs. Each semester approximately 100 kids from Somalia, Sudan, Colombia, Southeast Asia, Afghanistan, and Iraq participate in the photography program, which encourages youth to reflect upon and express their experiences of migration, and to think critically about their cultural identities for the purposes of fostering self-sufficiency both in their individual lives and in their communities. The Lyceum Theatre Gallery is open and free to the public seven days a week. Gallery hours are 11am-5pm Monday through Friday, and 12-5pm on the weekends. (www.artofphotographyshow.com)
