Del Mar Movers And Shakers

Within every thriving community, there are individuals who give of their time and talents to help ensure that the town evolves and flourishes as a wonderful place in which to live. Some might be born and bred there, others transplants, but one thing is for certain — they all are passionate about the place they call “home.” Here are a few of Del Mar’s dedicated movers and shakers.   JANE SHIOMI

 

Jen Grove

Jen Grove is the executive director of the Del Mar Village Association (DMVA), working tirelessly to support the revitalization of Del Mar with events including the annual Summer Solstice, Taste and Art Stroll, Holiday Wonderland, and many more. Grove has also helped initiate many new innovative projects related to downtown design, promotion, historic preservation, and economic restructuring. An area native, Grove grew up in Del Mar and graduated from Torrey Pines High School before going on to UCLA and later becoming an attorney, assisting in transforming the Presidio of San Francisco into the national treasure and amazing national park it is today. After the birth of her third child, Grove decided to return home, and she and her family now live just blocks from where she grew up in Del Mar. Grove utilizes her experience in transforming military bases into economically sustainable national parks to help Del Mar Village revitalize. “I love Del Mar and I am so happy to have the opportunity to work with the volunteers at the DMVA and raise my kids in this amazing village.”

 

Jerry Hoffmeister

Prior to his retirement in 1997, Jerry Hoffmeister managed and expanded several global technology companies serving the energy industries worldwide. Dedicated to giving back, Hoffmeister’s nonprofit resumé includes having served as chairman of the International Forum for Corporate Directors (currently Directors Forum) and the Chairman’s RoundTable; board member of the Del Mar Foundation, Friends of the Powerhouse Del Mar, and the Del Mar Village Association; and advisor of Excellence & Justice in Education (EJE). A true community leader, Hoffmeister currently provides strategic support and mentoring to early stage technology companies and community nonprofit organizations. He is also currently the chairman of the San Diego Foundation Board of Governors.

 

Sheryl White

Sheryl White is a San Diego mover and shaker who lives in Del Mar with her husband, Harvey. She led a distinguished career in banking, has served as co-chair of MCASD’s Contemporary Collectors group, has been a president of the board of trustees of the Old Globe Theatre, served on the board of the San Diego Opera and the New Children’s Museum, and is currently a member of Planned Parenthood’s board. The Whites support countless organizations in town of all sizes. Sheryl wholeheartedly believes that everyone has the means to get involved. In a prior interview, she has pointed out, “It does not need to be a large financial gift. In fact, I think a lot of people get confused and think that giving back just means dollars. Every organization needs volunteers and if you cannot physically volunteer you can help with phone calls or setting up Internet sites. Everything helps.”
